How to install internal kits

Detailed joinery guide covering drawer tower assembly and complete internal wardrobe fitout.

Follow these 7 steps to install your internal wardrobe kit.

What you will need

  • Tape measure
  • Pencil
  • Spirit level
  • Drill / driver
  • Drill & countersink bits
  • Stud finder
  • Angle grinder · rails
  • Caulking gun

Angle brackets, screws, wall and floor fixings, and tools are not included. If trimming or scribing panels, you’ll also need a suitable saw.

Step 01Preparation
Infill attaching to the drawer tower, then the tower moving into position.

Position and Secure the Tower

Drawer units arrive assembled. Fit the uprights and shelves—see drawer tower assembly.

Trim skirting where needed so the tower sits against the wall.

Position against the rear wall, level and plumb. Add packers if needed. Remove the top drawer, pre-drill and countersink the fixing rail, then secure to studs with 40 mm screws.

Using an infill panel? See how to fit and scribe it.

Step 02Cleats
Rear cleat sections moving into place, followed by the side cleat.

Install Rear and Side Cleats

Mark a level line from the tower top across the walls. Mark studs within 16 mm above it. Fix rear cleats first, then side cleats, with their tops on the line. Use studs or suitable load-rated wall fixings.

Adding a divider? Mark the divider position, allowing 16 mm for the board thickness. Leave this gap between the rear cleats. Use a laser to mark the matching skirting slot, then cut it with a multitool.
Step 03Top Shelf
Oversized top shelf being trimmed before lowering onto the tower and cleats.

Install the Top Shelf

The shelf is supplied oversized. Measure front and rear widths, check corners for square, then trim to fit the walls.

Rest on the tower and cleats. Pre-drill and countersink through the shelf along the back and both sides, over the wall cleats. Then use a cordless driver to screw down into the rear and side wall cleats.

If your rear and side walls are out of square, you will need to scribe your top shelf to ensure a perfect, snug fit. How to scribe a top shelf.

Tip: Tight access? Temporarily move the tower or leave a side cleat off. Refit before securing.
Step 04Divider
Divider sliding into the 16 mm gap between rear cleats, secured with one front floor bracket (not supplied) and screws through the top shelf.

Install the Divider (If Included)

Slide the divider into the 16 mm slot. If the wall gap exceeds 3 mm, scribe to fit.

Use a laser to set it plumb. Fix one angle bracket at the front (not supplied) to secure the divider to the floor. Pre-drill and countersink down through the top shelf, then use a cordless driver to screw through the shelf into the divider.

Step 05Hanging Rails
Rail flanges fitting into place, then oval hanging rails cut to length and installed.

Fit the Hanging Rails

Upper fixing holes: 240 mm from the rear wall, 35 mm below the top edge.

Lower fixing holes on the tower and divider: 1040 mm below the tower top, 230 mm from the rear edge.

Mark and pre-drill the holes, then screw the hanging ends in place.

Measure between panels, deduct 6 mm, then cut and fit each rail.

Step 06Finish
Caulking down the rear joint of the divider and along its bottom edge.

Clean Up and Gap Fill

Wipe away dust. Caulk small gaps where fixed panels meet walls. Smooth the bead and wipe off excess.

Tip: Leave adjustable shelves and moving parts free of caulk.
Step 07Complete
Completed wardrobe with drawer tower, top shelf, divider and hanging rails.

Your Wardrobe Is Ready

Enjoy your custom wardrobe! Simply clean up with a towel and allow at least 24 hrs for caulking to cure before using!

Wall stud anchoring: Always fasten towers securely into timber wall studs or solid masonry. Do not rely on hollow plasterboard anchors alone for full-height cabinetry supporting heavy hanging clothes and loaded drawers.

Important installation recommendation

Drawer units and shelf towers arrive pre-assembled. Installation requires suitable tools and experience with measuring, trimming, levelling and secure fixing. We recommend arranging an experienced installer. Hanging rails are supplied at 3 m to be trimmed on-site. Angle brackets, screws, wall and floor fixings, and tools are not included. Choose fixings suited to your wall and floor substrate.
