Scribing shapes the infill edge to fit an uneven wall while keeping the tower upright.
When to scribe: Check both walls with a spirit level. Scribe if a wall is 3 mm or more out of plumb. Smaller gaps may be caulked.
Mark. Keep the panel plumb and trace the wall profile onto its wall-facing edge. Keep the tower-facing edge straight.
Trim. Clamp securely, cut just outside the line, then plane or sand to fit. Use eye and dust protection.
Attach. Hold the infill firmly in position against the tower. Remove the bottom drawers for access, then pre-drill and countersink from inside the tower through the side panel into the infill. Screw the infill in place from inside the tower, then refit the drawers. Angle brackets are not supplied for infill panels.
Position. Slide both against the wall. Check the tower is level and plumb, and the drawers open freely, before securing.
Check before cutting: The infill must be wide enough at every height. Beside a nib wall, allow its projection plus 10 mm for drawer clearance.
How to Scribe a Top Shelf
Shape the rear and side edges to fit the walls, keeping the front edge straight.
Measure. Check front and rear widths and all three walls. Start with a shelf large enough to fit.
Mark. Transfer each wall profile onto its matching shelf edge. Keep the finished front edge straight.
Trim and test. Remove and clamp the shelf. Cut just outside the line, then plane or sand to fit. Test-fit between cuts.
Secure. Once all three edges fit neatly, rest the shelf on the tower and cleats. Pre-drill, countersink and screw into place.
Trim gradually and never force the shelf into place. Check access before cutting, and use eye and dust protection.
