How to install sliding doors

Step-by-step walkthrough for fitting top track, bottom track, hanging doors, and roller wheel height adjustment.

Before you start

Check the floor is level. Use packers or a floor plate where needed; a floor plate is required over carpet. Check the tracks align vertically before drilling.

You will need:

  • Tape measure and pencil
  • Spirit level
  • Drill and suitable drill bits
  • #2 Phillips screwdriver
  • Suitable fixings for your walls and floor
  • Packers or a floor plate, if required
Fit the End Caps
01

Fit the End Caps

Push the matching plastic caps into both ends of the top and bottom tracks.

Position Both Tracks
02

Position Both Tracks

Position the top and bottom tracks, aligned vertically. Push the end caps outward to meet the jambs and cover the gaps, keeping them overlapping the tracks.

Secure Both Tracks
03

Secure Both Tracks

Secure at three fixing points along the bottom track, then three along the top track. Use fixings suited to your floor or floor plate and the timber frame above.

Fit the Doors
04

Fit the Doors

Fit the rear door first: tilt and lift the top into the rear channel, swing the bottom inward, then lower the wheels onto the matching groove. Repeat for the front door. Continue to the sliding and adjustment checks.

Adjust the Doors
05

Adjust the Doors

Use a manual #2 Phillips screwdriver to adjust the bottom rollers until each door aligns with its matching jamb. Keep each door assigned to that side. Do not use a high-torque power drill on the adjustment screws.

Check that each door slides smoothly, aligns with its matching jamb and stays correctly seated in the tracks. Complete the installation and adjustment checks before use.

IMPORTANT: If your jambs are not plumb, the floor or top jamb is not level, or the opening is out of square, a door may sit flush against one side but leave a gap when moved to the other side. Adjust each door to its matching jamb, as shown in Step 5, and keep it assigned to that side.
